The word “tag” has the meaning of a term connected to a piece of information. In the context of E-Commerce, tags are used as keywords to define a separate predefined type of categorization for products. This is possible thanks to the option to assign multiple tags to a single product and furthermore to use those as an actual search enhancer.
Often the customer might not know the full name of a certain product and instead of the name, the customer will search for related to the products keywords. In such cases, the tags are very useful and in this tutorial, you are going to learn how to fully manage the tags for your products in PrestaShop 1.7.
To be able to add, edit or delete tags, you will first have to access the PrestaShop admin area and from the left vertical menu look for the “Shop Parameters” option and then the “Search” option from the drop-down menu.
That action will redirect you to the “Search” page.
On the “Search” page you will see a few sections and two tabs. The tabs are called “Search” and “Tags”. You have to click the “Tags” tab.
This will redirect you to a page called “Tags”. And here you go, you reached the designated page.
Once redirected to the “Tags” page you will be presented with all the tags that are used in the store so far.
To be able to add a new tag, please, click the “Add new tag” button at the top right of the page.
That will redirect you to a page called “Add new”.
On that page, you will see only one section called “Tag”.
On the “Tag” section you have one field for the name of the tag, one drop-down menu for the language, one add/remove block for the available products and one button to save your work.
It is pretty simple. You just have to create a “Name” for the new tag. It is recommended to be short and connected with a product from your store so that the customers can easily find it.
You have to choose the proper language for the tag from the predefined available languages of your Online Store.
You have to add the desired products to the empty block. This way you specify for which products the tag is valid. If you had added unnecessary product, then simply, press the “Remove” button.
Once ready with these options, please, click the “Save” button at the bottom of the section.
That action will redirect you back to the general “Tags” page, but you will also be provided with a “Successful creation” message indicating that your brand new tag has been added.
That was easy, isn’t it? Even easier is to edit or delete an existing tag.
Once in the general “Tags” page you can simply click the “Edit” button, positioned right next to each one of the existing tags.
You will be redirected to a page called “Edit: and the name of the chosen tag”.
The only different thing here will be that everything is already filled out with the information for the tag you have entered previously.
Please edit the information per your needs and use the “Save” button at the bottom of the page to actually save the edit.
Even easier is to delete tags. From the general “Tags” page, please, click the arrow right next to the “Edit” button and click “Delete”.
A message asking you if you want to delete the tag will appear.
If you want to delete the specific tag, please, click “OK” and the tag will be deleted.
Congratulations! Today you learned how you can fully manage the tags for your products in PrestaShop.
