Getting Started
The check the different types of ad placeholders available in Ezoic, please log inside your Ezoic dashboard. If you still need to register or have yet to integrate your site with Ezoic, please check our tutorials on registering an account with them and all available integration methods.
Once you have logged in to your dashboard, please click on the "EzoicAds" icon located on the top menu bar.
Doing so will redirect you to the Ad Setup page on Ezoic. Please click on the "Ad Types" tab, which is located on the right side of the "Placeholder" tab.
After performing the action above, you will unveil another row of tabs underneath the ones above, where you can see the available placeholder types.
Let's review them individually, explain what they are, how they work, and if they are a good addition to your website.
Ezoic Ad Placeholder Types
- Native Ads: These are the most basic type of ads that Ezoic will show on your website. They include editorial and sponsored content stories and appear at either the bottom of your website or in a sidebar. Not only will they help you increase ad revenue, but they will also help your visitors discover content they never knew existed in the first place. It would be best if you always had these enabled on your website. Native Ads can also be split into different categories. For example:
- Display Ads: These are standard banner ads that come in various sizes, such as leaderboard (728x90), medium rectangle (300x250), skyscraper (160x600), and more. Ezoic can place them within the content, in the sidebar, or at the top and bottom of the page.
- In-Content Ads: These ad placeholders are inserted within the body of an article or page content. These ads are excellent because they are non-intrusive and blend very nicely with the surrounding text, boosting user experience in the process.
- In-Image Ads: These ads are laid over on images within the content the visitor is viewing. They can be triggered when users hover over or interact with a media file on your site, offering a creative way to display advertisements.
- Vignette Ads: These types of ads are usually displayed on your screen whenever you switch to a different page, and you would need to click "Close" or the "X" button to remove it. They are detrimental to user experience, and we highly recommend turning them off, even though they can significantly increase revenue. Another bad thing about Vignette ads is that they are against Google's policy, so you risk getting copyright struck by them when using them.
- Auto-Insert Ads: This is Ezoic's bread-and-butter AI placement of ads. It ensures that ads are correctly placed on your website and in the correct spot. We recommend keeping this enabled at all times.
- Anchor Ads: Anchor ads are placed along the edges of the screen or at the bottom of the website and remain fixed as the user scrolls horizontally. They are particularly suitable for mobile devices and provide consistent ad visibility. They also substantially increase ad revenue, so we recommend always having them on.
- Side Rails: These are new types of ads available in Ezoic, and they are great if your website does not have content on the left or right side of the screen. Having these enabled will place ads on the places we mentioned above, which will also stick to the screen and display even if the user scrolls up or down. You can use the toggle switches under the Side Rails tab to activate/deactivate the side rails ads on a specific side, where your website has a piece of content you want your visitors to see.
- Sticky Sidebars: If your website has a sidebar, we highly recommend enabling these, as they generate a lot of income. Typically, websites have a search bar on their sidebar and display their recent posts. In most cases, there is a lot of empty space, which you can let Ezoic fill with these types of ads. Primary income from these will come from desktop users because these are usually placed at the bottom of the screen for mobile or tablet.
- Floating Video: When activated, this type of ad will display a video at the bottom right side of your website. This video will start playing automatically. However, it will be muted and stay there until you close it. It is difficult to say how this ad will fare on your website, but it usually earns little income. You should decide for yourself if you would somewhat hinder user experience by using this ad. By removing it, you would enhance user experience and rely on the rest of the ad types to generate income. The best way to test this is by enabling it at first, monitoring its income generation for a few months, and then deactivating it to see how it goes.
- Expanded Article Ads: These ad types will show an ad on your pages, and the visitor can click a "Show More" button or an "Expand" button to reveal the rest of what the ad has to display. Activating these ads can take up quite a lot of room in the content area of your website, which will hinder user experience and may increase bounce rates. You can experiment with it and see how it goes, but we recommend having it turned if you don't want to overdo it.
Hopefully, our overview of the ad placeholder types was helpful, and you have a better understanding of ad types in general and what kind of ads you can run with Ezoic.
