How to configure Local Settings in OpenCart 3

Introduction

In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to configure the base location where your business operates, the default currency used for processing payments and your language preferences. The settings we will review in the following lines will determine the costs and shipping calculations and they will be used by shipping and payment providers.

Getting Started

In order to begin, please log in to your OpenCart Admin Dashboard and navigate through the left menu bar to System > Settings.

Accessing the Settings page

After you access the “Stores” page, please click on the “Edit” button (the pencil icon) next to your store name and you will be redirected to the “Edit Settings” page.

Selecting the website to edit

Please make sure to switch to the “Local” tab as there will be our main focus in this guide.

Configuring Local Settings

Please note that entering accurate information is essential as default tax rates will be determined according to the local government regulations of the specific country.

Local Settings

  • Country - Please select the base country where your business operates from the dropdown menu.
  • Region / State - From this dropdown menu, you will need to select the region or state of your store location.
  • Language - Determines the default language of your store frontend. Please note that additional languages need to be installed as extensions and could be configured from System > Localisation > Languages. You can find detailed instructions in our guide available here.
  • Administrative Language - Determines the language for the administrative area of your store (the backend).
  • Currency - Determines the default currency of your store - all product prices will be displayed with this currency. Please note that additional currencies can be added and configured from System > Localisation > Currencies. You can find detailed instructions in our guide available here.
  • Auto Update Currency - This setting will allow you to control whether automatic conversion rate updates are enabled and performed on a daily basis.
  • Lenght Class - Determines the measurement unit which will be used to define the product length.
  • Weight Class - Determines the measurement unit which will be used to define the product weight.

Once you are ready, please make sure to click on the blue "Save" button located in the top right corner of the page.

Even though the configuration of these settings is extremely easy, they play an important role in your online store. As previously mentioned the shipping and payment methods integrated into your store will be based on them. We hope you have found our tutorial useful and we would like to thank for trusting our guidance.
